Statement
"When viewing one of my paintings for the first time, people are
drawn to the bright colors I love to use. Often their first
impression is that the painting is whimsical or dream-like, and
they respond to my use of bold strokes and vivacious colors.
Upon closer study, the canvas reveals a complex use of colors
that retain their luminance and purity. I like to use large
brushes and palette knives that allow me to create a sense of
both immediacy and movement.
I work primarily
with oil paints. I love pure, vibrant colors because for me
they represent excitement, action and emotions, feelings that I
want the viewer to experience when looking at my paintings. My
favorite color is red. I like it because it’s stimulating and
passionate, and because it can be warm or cool depending on how
I use it.
I’m very fortunate
that my mind is filled with subjects and stories that I want to
paint; the possibilities seem endless to me. Some of my ideas
come in dreams; others are pulled from personal experiences.
When I’m ready to begin a painting I always take a moment to
bless the canvas. Creating something that is totally original
gives me the opportunity to share a bit of myself with others."
